Things are moving fast in the Epic Games vs Apple battle

Things are moving fast in the Epic Games vs Apple battle. After Fortnite was pulled from the App Store for breaking Apple’s rules — sneaking in a direct payment method to get around the in-app purchase system — Epic almost immediately filed a lawsuit against Apple. Now the game developer says that Apple is terminating its account.

Epic shared the update on Twitter today, calling the removal of its account a “retaliation” for filing a lawsuit against Apple. The developer says that Apple is planning to terminate all of its accounts and cut it off from iOS and Mac development tools on August 28.

Epic has asked the Northern District California court where it filed its lawsuit last week to block Apple from terminating its developer account in a new filing. But considering how Apple expressed that it was willing to work with Epic Games to get Fortnite back on the App Store and then Epic responded with a lawsuit and a calculated protest, that may not be very likely with Apple having the higher legal ground here.

Here’s the opening of Epic’s latest filing after hearing that Apple is set to terminate its account:

Just over two weeks ago, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was asked during a Congressional hearing whether Apple has “ever retaliated against or disadvantaged a developer who went public about their frustrations with the App Store”. Mr. Cook testified, “We do not retaliate or bully people. It’s strongly against our company culture.”1 But Apple has done just that. When Epic gave users of its app Fortnite a choice of how they wanted to make purchases, Apple retaliated by removing Fortnite from its App Store. Then when Epic sued Apple to break its monopoly on app stores and in-app payments, Apple retaliated ferociously. It told Epic that by August 28, Apple will cut off Epic’s access to all development tools necessary to create software for Apple’s platforms—including for the Unreal Engine Epic offers to third-party developers, which Apple has never claimed violated any Apple policy. Not content simply to remove Fortnite from the App Store, Apple is attacking Epic’s entire business in unrelated areas.

Epic claims that beyond harming “millions of innocent consumers worldwide” who play Fortnite and its other games, Apple terminating its developer account is a threat to its Unreal Engine.

In addition, Apple’s retaliation represents an existential threat to Epic’s Unreal Engine. OS providers like Apple routinely make certain software and developer tools available to v buck generator software developers, for free or a small fee, to enable the development of software that will run on the OS. Apple intends to deny Epic access to that widely available material. Without that access, Epic cannot develop future versions of the Unreal Engine for use on iOS or macOS.

Background

When Apple pulled Fortnite over the direct payment method last week, an official statement from the company ended with “We will make every effort to work with Epic to resolve these violations so they can return Fortnite to the App Store.”

Shortly after, Epic posted this protest video based on Apple’s famous 1984 commercial, slamming Apple for running an “App Store Monopoly” and “blocking Fortnite from a billion devices.” And just over an hour after Fortnite was removed from the App Store, Epic Games filed a lawsuit.

Epic is not seeking monetary compensation from this Court for the injuries it has suffered. Nor is Epic seeking favorable treatment for itself, a single company. Instead, Epic is seeking injunctive relief to allow fair competition in these two key markets that directly affect hundreds of millions of consumers and tens of thousands, if not more, of third-party app developers.

In a 9to5Mac poll, 51% of readers agreed with Apple pulling Fortnite. Another 35% agreed with Apple but felt that there should be App Store rule changes. Just 13% felt Apple shouldn’t have pulled the app.

With the battle between the two taking another big step, what do you think? Does it make sense for Apple to terminate Epic’s developer account? Or does it feel like retaliation to you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Epic will continue to only have a single class of common stock outstanding

Epic Games, the video game giant behind the hit title Fortnite, said Thursday that it was valued at $17.3 billion after a $1.78 billion funding deal.

The Cary, North Carolina-based firm said the investment came in the form of primary capital and secondary purchases, meaning some investors bought new shares while others bought stakes from existing shareholders. Epic said the investment included a $250 million strategic investment from Sony, which it announced last month.

Epic announced that a number of new investors have bought into the company, including Baillie Gifford, funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, Fidelity, Lightspeed Venture Partners, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price and hedge fund manager David Tepper. Existing backers KKR and Smash Ventures also increased their holdings, Epic said.

“Having the support of leaders in the financial community accelerates Epic’s efforts to build a new kind of digital ecosystem using real-time 3D technology, services that connect hundreds of millions of people, and a digital storefront that offers a fair business model,” Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney said in a statement Thursday. “We are delighted to have them as part of the Epic family.”

Epic will continue to only have a single class of common stock outstanding and remains controlled by Sweeney, the firm said.

The company has become a force to be reckoned with in the $150 billion gaming industry thanks to fortnite v bucks generator the continued rise in popularity of Fortnite. The battle royale game now has a total of more than 350 million players, according to Epic. It has become a big revenue driver for the firm, with a free-to-play model that generates income from in-game payments for cosmetic items like skins.

But Epic is also known for its Unreal game engine software, which powers many of the world’s top games. The company also runs an online video games store that competes with Valve’s Steam.

The video game industry itself has experienced a boom in demand as consumers have turned to interactive entertainment for escapism in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. On Thursday, for instance, Nintendo posted a huge 428% rise in fiscal first-quarter operating profit, as sales of its Animal Crossing: New Horizons game almost doubled.

Epic’s $17.3 billion valuation represents a roughly 15% climb from the $15 billion the company was worth in 2018. Chinese tech giant Tencent holds a considerable minority stake in the firm. It’s not clear yet whether the company has any plans to go public.

Fortnite announce their Summer Splash event

As long-time Fortnite fans will tell you, small details can make a big difference when it comes to your weapons.

From reload speed to rate of fire, damage to magazine size, having the very best weapon can make all the difference when you’re battling it out to be the sole survivor.

While Fortnite uses a colour-coded system to differentiate between Common, Rare, Legendary and Mythic weapons and items, you’re going to have to do a bit more digging to find the very best in terms of damage-per-second.

Fortunately, esports bookmakers Unikrn has revealed all, confirming the top-five weapons in Fortnite to Express Online.

Based on stats since the 13.30 update, it’s the Legendary Rapid Fire SMG that does the most damage-per-second, followed by Jules’ Drum Gun.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Fortnite fans are persistently looking for the best and easiest ways to kill opponents to improve their chances of winning matches. And by looking at the guns on offer in more detail it can only increase their chances of this.

“The Rapid Fire SMG has been voted the most powerful gun, according to these statistics, but it’s only a matter of time before new weapons appear – potentially in a new update or most likely in Season 4 next month.”

You can see the top five Mythic and Legendary guns below…

RELATED ARTICLES

1. Rapid Fire SMG (Legendary)

In Fortnite’s latest v13.20 update the standard submachine gun was heavily nerfed with its damage and fire rate dropped dramatically across each rarity.

However, the Rapid Fire SMG came out relatively unscathed?

This has made it arguably the best close-range weapon to use in the game. Now the most powerful of any gun in Season 3 so far, the legendary version does 255 damage per second.

In fact, each rarity except grey would be in the top 5 for dps.

2. Jules’ Drum Gun (Mythic)

The Drum Gun is Season 3 mythic gun and can only be obtained by killing boss, Jules.

It does slightly less damage than the Midas’ Drum Gun from Season 2, but it’s still incredibly powerful with 204 damage per second.

If you can get hold of it, it’s well worth the effort.

3. Submachine Gun (Legendary)

Not as quick or as powerful as the Rapid Fire SMG, but with the P90 being re-vaulted in the v13.20 patch, the standard SMG is a still useful go-to for quick kills.

Despite being nerfed in the update fortnite v bucks generator, the legendary version of the SMG still does 20 damage and has a fairly high fire rate of 10.

Overall its damage-per-second is 200 and still ranks among the best guns in the game

4. SCAR (Legendary Assault Rifle)

A fan favourite for many, the gold SCAR is a great all-round weapon in close quarters or for mid-range exchanges.

The legendary assault rifle is highly accurate and a first choice for thousands of players. It’s just a matter of stumbling across one.

5. Pistol (Legendary)

It may surprise many, but the pistol is one of the most powerful guns on the game by damage-per-second.

With 197 DPS, the legendary pistol is not far off the SCAR. Unfortunately, it also means you have to manually hit every shot you fire out of the barrel in that short space of time to get the desired 197 damage. Fortnite V-Bucks.

On the map, it overlaps E5/F5, and as you approach from the Battle Bus, it should be fairly easy to spot. Lastly, while they aren’t fully reappeared, spots like Weeping Woods and Dirty Docks are starting to reappear, suggesting they will soon be back to their pre-flood state as well.

Of course, while the map is returning to fortnite v bucks generator normal over the course of Season 3, it will likely see another big wave of changes come Season 4. That said, at the moment of publishing, there’s been no word of when Season 4 will release. It’s likely Season 4 will arrive sometime towards the end of summer, but for now, this is just speculation.

Due to an issue, we’re temporarily disabled the ability to travel with secret passages.

Epic Games just suspended all travels through secret passages until further notice. Though it isn’t known what the underlying issue is behind the decision, Epic announced it was working on fixing the setback and would provide more updates once it was resolved.

Secret Passages were added to the game as a part of the Chapter Two storyline, and they have been a vital part of most player movement and looting patterns.

A Secret Passage allows players to get in and out of safe houses, allowing them to take their time while looting. This exit strategy will not be available until Epic fixes the issue, however, and all Secret Passage entrances are now regular hiding spots you can enter.

Absence of the Secret Passages v bucks generator will make helicopters, boats, and rideable sharks the only way to get out of the crowded points of interest. The competition to get one of those vehicles can be significantly harder for the time being, so we recommend landing and looting safely until the issue gets resolved.

You can keep an eye on Fortnite’s status on its Twitter page, and start wreaking havoc by using the Secret Passages, once they become available, before anyone else.

Epic has delayed the release of Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 3 multiple times

Assuming there doesn’t end up being another last-minute delay, Fortnite players will finally get witness The Device, the end-of-Season-2 event that Epic has planned for this upcoming Monday. The event will shed light on the Season 2 storyline and reveal what Midas has been up to, something that, speculation has it, will result in the partial destruction of The Agency.

Epic has delayed the release of Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 3 multiple times, the most recent being due to the ongoing protests. We’ve seen a number of leaks over past weeks, ones that all but confirm a flood-based themed for Season 3. Ahead of that release will come The Device, an event that will happen in real-time to reveal what Midas has been building.

A look at the combined ground/destroyed building of the agency, relating to the event.#Fortnite #FortniteLeaks #Blender pic.twitter.com/kP2gWyl2jq

— armisto (@amrsatrio) June 10, 2020

Players have anticipated that Midas will blow something up with his machine, perhaps triggering a series of changes that lead to the island being flooded. A new leak free v bucks generator published on Twitter indicates that it will be The Agency that faces this destruction, though parts of its will still stand — assuming the leak is correct, of course.

The images show renderings created in Blender based on information pulled from the Fortnite game files. It’s unclear how this destruction takes place and what role it will play in the story. It is possible that the ruins of this relatively new POI will remain in Season 3, but it’s just as likely that Epic will remove them.

Unfortunately, The Device event is now scheduled to take place on Monday, June 15, instead of on the weekend. This was an unfortunate change as fewer players will be able to catch the event live compared to a weekend drop, but the impact may be diminished by summer break and stay home orders.

Epic has pushed back the Season 3 start date several times.

Epic Games has delayed the next Fortnite event and season once more. A one-time event called The Device is moving from June 6th to June 15th. Chapter 2 Season 3, which will probably feature a flooded map, will start two days after that.

The publisher made the call amid ongoing, widespread anti-racism protests following the death of George Floyd. A former Minneapolis police officer has been charged fortnite v bucks generator with second-degree murder, and three others who were on the scene face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Sony and EA also postponed gaming events they had scheduled for this week in light of the protests.

“Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of color,” Epic wrote in a blog post. “We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics. The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families and their communities.”

Epic has pushed back the Season 3 start date several times. It was originally supposed to begin on May 1st, but it moved to June 4th and then June 11th.

Christopher Nolan, one of Hollywood’s biggest proponents of the theatrical experience

Christopher Nolan, one of Hollywood’s biggest proponents of the theatrical experience, is the latest director to see his movie get the Fortnite treatment.

The latest trailer for his upcoming film Tenet debuted in Fortnite on Thursday. Although very little about the film is actually known, Tenet is described as a movie set within the world of international espionage, and the first trailer and marketing material for the movie has played up a concept in which time moves forward and backward — hence the palindrome title. The new trailer expands on John David Washington’s main character as he learns to warp time, with the stake of the world and its future in his hands.

Prior to Nolan’s Tenet trailer premiering in Epic Games’ massive virtual universe, Disney and director J.J. Abrams teamed up with Epic to debut a scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Abrams was on hand to introduce the clip, appearing as a tinier virtual version of himself on top of a stage where players could see him talk to host Geoff Keighley. The scene was later alluded to in the The Rise of Skywalker’s opening crawl. After the trailer premiered, Keighley also announced that a classic Nolan movie will screen in Fortnite for fans some time this summer.

TENET WILL BE A LITMUS TEST FOR BIG-BUDGET HOLLYWOOD RELEASES DURING THE PANDEMIC
Missing from the trailer: any specific release date for Tenet. The movie is still slated for July 17th, according to new marketing material that appeared on Twitter after the trailer debuted.

Nolan’s Tenet isn’t just one of Warner Bros.’ biggest movies of the year — it’s also become a litmus test as to whether Hollywood studios could start releasing their films after facing a series of delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mulan, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and Wonder Woman 1984 are all set to follow Tenet. If Warner Bros. decides to alter the release date for its Nolan blockbuster, however, it could influence the release schedules of other big-budget studio films.

What’s increasingly unlikely to happen is Tenet becoming a digital-only title. Studios like Disney, Universal, and Warner Bros. have all moved some of their titles to digital or streaming-only exclusives, while delaying others that cost more to make and stand to lose the most if not given the opportunity to recoup costs at the theater.

The moves have caused strife with big theater chains like AMC and Regal as studios reiterate their vbuck generator commitment to the theatrical model while also using this current unprecedented time to test new release strategies. With a budget north of $205 million, and several million more being on advertising and marketing, it’s unlikely Warner Bros. would make Tenet a digital-only title at this juncture. Especially as Nolan continues to champion movies getting a proper theatrical release.

The bottom line is whether Tenet will hit theaters on July 17th like Warner Bros. has repeated. As of right now, the answer seems to be yes — Warner Bros. hasn’t said anything otherwise. But that could all change in the days and weeks ahead.

Update May 21st, 8:17PM ET: Although the trailer still doesn’t have a release date, the studio added Tenet’s original July 17th release date back to marketing materials on Twitter. The marketing materials are different from earlier in the day, before the trailer premiered. The story has been updated to include these details.

Two Fortnite dataminers have dug up evidence pointing toward the officially

Two Fortnite dataminers have dug up evidence pointing toward the officially unnamed event’s imminent arrival. Though Epic Games hasn’t made any announcements itself, leaks discovered by poring through the game’s files point to a new countdown timer that’s soon to come online, as well as in-game changes such as the disappearance of the doomsday device from Midas’ secret headquarters.

Fortnite dataminer spedicey1 recently managed to trigger the appearance of a new in-game countdown clock. Fortnite loves a good countdown, and it looks like fortnite v bucks generator this one may mark the time until the event that begins the end of the current season and the start of Fortnite chapter 2 season 3. Note that the time itself shown in this tweet isn’t meant to be accurate, it’s just a demonstration of how the countdown clock will appear in-game.

Fellow fortnite dataminer Hypex also discovered evidence pointing toward the countdown, as well as some other in-game changes. You know that doomsday device in the background of Midas’ office? It isn’t going to stay put for much longer. It isn’t yet clear where (if anywhere) the doomsday device will appear out in the world, but you don’t typically want to set those things off right in the belly of your lair.

The current season was originally set to end in April, but Epic Games gave it a roughly month-long extension. The new season is now set to begin on June 4, and if previous season transitions are anything to go by, things are going to get weird before Fortnite settles into a new normal.
